How much shade does a pergola actually provide?
Standard pergolas provide "filtered" shade, blocking about 40% to 60% of the direct sun. If you want more shade, we can install the top slats closer together.
What kind of wood do you use for pergolas?
We highly recommend Western Red Cedar for pergolas. It is naturally resistant to decay, looks beautiful, and holds up incredibly well in the hot Texas climate.
Can you attach a pergola directly to my house?
Yes, we can build pergolas that are attached to your exterior wall, or we can build them entirely freestanding over a pool, garden, or outdoor kitchen.
Can I put a solid roof on my pergola later?
Pergolas are generally designed for open slats rather than the heavy load of a solid roof. If you think you want full rain protection in the future, we recommend building a solid Patio Cover from the start.
